STEP 5: PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE

For this step you will write a poem and provide an analysis of your own writing. Your poem and your analysis must be typed. Remember to spell check and proofread carefully.

Write a poem about your personal perspective on war. You have the freedom to decide the length and format of your poem. However, in order to get the full amount of points your poem must include at least three of the poetry conventions listed below:

o Alliteration
o Assonance
o Connotation
o Denotation
o Hyperbole
o Imagery
o Metaphor
o Personification
o Refrain
o Simile

Look at the Poetry Conventions page if you need a definition of these terms.

Once you have finished your poem, you must provide an analysis of your theme (2-3 sentences) and a description of the poetry conventions that you used. Cite the specific lines where you used these poetry conventions, and explain how they support and/or enhance the theme of your poem. If you need help writing and/or analyzing your poem, look at the Sample Poetry Analysis posted on this site or return to the homepage and read some of the poems written by WWI soldiers.

For more information on grading, look at the WebQuest Checklist to see the rubric that will be used to grade your poem.
